Σήμερα παίζω σε πιο μεγάλες ώρες, καθώς είχα πιο σημαντικά πράγματα να κάνω όλη μέρα, όπως το να ψήσω ενα μετσοβίτικο λουκάνικο γεμιστό με τυρί που δεν μπορούσε να περιμένει. Αλλά, πιστός στο κυριακάτικο ραντεβού μας, είμαι εδω ξανά.
Τι διάβασα αυτη τη βδομάδα:

• Το θλιβερό 0,8% του Γιάννη Βαρουφάκη

«Ακούσατε το τελευταίο; Η οικονομία μας αναπτύχθηκε κατά 0,8% στο πρώτο τρίμηνο του 2011. Μια αχτίδα φωτός στο σκοτάδι; Θα ήταν αν την ίδια περίοδο εναντίον της αλήθειας δεν είχε συρρικνωθεί κατά 4.6%!

Μπερδευτήκατε; Δεν θα έπρεπε. Όταν σπούδαζα στατιστική στην Αγγλία, το πρώτο πράγμα που μας μάθανε ήταν η έκφραση: “Lies, damned lies and… statistics”.»

Κοίτα, αυτο το πράγμα ειναι καταπληκτικό. Πραγματικά απο τα καλύτερα πράγματα που έχουν κάνει περιοδικά στο ίντερνετ. HTML5 και τα μυαλά στα κάγκελα. Ιδού πως το περιγράφει το ίδιο το Wired:

«Over the last few weeks, the Wired.co.uk tech team has been working with Microsoft to think of a fun, innovative way of browsing Wired’s content, past and present — from robots and spiders, to robot spiders. The result is The Wired Mind — a  HTML5 web app for exploring the strange things that obsess us, and how those stories relate to each other.

Microsoft wanted to build something that utilised Internet Explorer 9 and its integration with Windows 7 and its underlying hardware, and we wanted to play around with HTML5 technology like a bunch of geeks. Turns out our original idea of «a web app that accurately simulates string theory’s theoretical role within the physical properties of a web server», was a bit tricky, however.

So we started from scratch with the idea of a giant pulsating brain and went from there. It was a very agreeable, and more realistic, compromise actually. (We’ll have to wait until HTML6 before we can accurately simulate a grand unified theory of physics as a web app.)

Take a look at The Wired Mind, browse around, poke, prod and play. Be warned: It was built to run on Internet Explorer 9, so other browsers may get lower frame rates.
